Like any other woman, I’m not exempted from the aging process. I am in my mid forties and every part of me from the head till the toes are aging each day. I know aging is unavoidable but I’m kind of hoping that I can slow the aging process a little bit. Guess it’s every woman’s wish as well to slow the aging process.

From the day we are all born, we age everyday. As a young person, we don’t think about the later years in our life. We live in a very fast-paced world today and it causes a lot of stress in our lives and as time goes on, the stress will affect us increasingly.

Everyone young and old, we all need to take care of our bodies and minds. By taking care of ourselves, it keeps us thinking, moving and helps prevent major illnesses such as cancer and many other diseases. The high stress found in today’s fast-paced and busy life can put your body at risk for many different things, such as a lower resistance to diseases. We all have to work at keeping ourselves healthy and there is no better time than right now. The younger you start taking care of yourself the better it is.

Any stress put on our bodies can cause free radicals. Basically anything that has to do with living can cause free radicals. Other sources are polluted air, stressful event, carcinogenic foods. Even “healthy” activities can create free radicals such as intense exercise. I am sure you must be asking why should we even exercise if there is damage we are causing. Well, the good news is because there is a way to neutralize these free radicals and make them harmless.

Antioxidants are any substance that can prevent or slow the oxidation process. Free radicals cause oxidation and antioxidants prevent oxidations so free radicals are essentially neutralized or deemed harmless.

High antioxidants found in certain fruits and vegetables may help slow the aging process in both body and brain. But unfortunately we can’t eat that much fruits and vegetables daily to get enough antioxidants. My energy level has increased. My skin has improved and it certainly helps in my weight management as well. Dear Readers,

Looking for a cool salad to fill you up this summer? Here’s a delicious recipe from my partners over at Prograde Nutrition for you.

Roasted Red Pepper Chicken and Avocado Salad

1 medium ripe avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced

1 tsp. lemon juice

1 bag (10 oz.) torn romaine lettuce (about 10 cups)

2 cups shredded cooked chicken

1 medium tomato, cut into wedges

1 small cucumber, sliced

1/4 of a medium Vidalia or Walla Walla onion, chopped

½ cup Red Pepper

1/2 cup Light or Fat-free Italian Dressing

¼ cup Parmesan Cheese

Directions:

Toss avocados with lemon juice in large salad bowl.

Add lettuce, chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions; mix lightly.

Add dressing; toss to coat.

Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

Serve immediately.

You can ask a friend to help you identify options and even make more options if you encounter some difficulty, but make sure that you make the decision yourself in the end.

Assess each option by looking at the advantages and disadvantages it offers you. In this way, you get more insights about the consequences of such an option.

• Trust yourself and make that decision.

Now that you have assessed your options, it is  time to trust yourself. So choose…  decide…  believe that you are choosing the best option at this point in time. Now that you have made a decision, be ready to face its consequences: good and bad. It may take you to a place of promise or to a land of problems. But the important thing is that you have chosen to live your life instead of remaining a bystander or a passive audience to your own life. Whether it is the right decision or not, only time can tell.  But do not regret it whatever the outcome. Instead, learn from it and remember that you always have the chance to make better decisions in the future.
